FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

Here are some answers to the frequently asked questions about our studios and classes. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to your first class so you can complete a waiver.
  • Wear comfortable workout clothes to class (more form-fitting attire helps our instructors see your form).
  • Grip socks are a must for safety and sanitary reasons. If you forget grip socks, they are available for purchase at the front desk of each studio.
  • Only water is allowed in the studio. Bring your bottle and fill up at our water-filling stations!
  • We use the state-of-the-art Merrithew V2 Max Plus Reformer/Tower Combo and Split-Pedal Stability Chair in all our studios. Please have a look at our "Reformer/Tower Anatomy" to familiarize yourself with the equipment before attending your first group class.
  • We offer a New Client 3-Class Intro Package, which includes a 30-minute free session to get to know our equipment and our style. Clients with no previous experience on the Pilates Reformer, must schedule the complimentary 30-minute free session with the Front Desk prior to signing up for a group class.
We recommend purchasing our New Client 3-Class Intro Package which includes a complimentary 30-minute group class that introduces you to our state-of-the-art Merrithew equipment and the Natural Pilates Method. Please call the studio to schedule the 30 min intro.
If you are pregnant or have an injury or special condition, we recommend scheduling 1-3 private sessions before jumping into group classes.

TAKING CLASSES

All classes are 55 minutes long.
Wear comfortable workout clothes to class (yoga or gym attire). If your clothes are more form-fitting, it helps our instructors see and correct your form more easily. Grip socks are required for safety and sanitary reasons. If you forget grip socks, they are available for purchase at the front desk of each studio.
Water in an appropriately sealed water bottle is allowed inside the studio, and we encourage clients to bring one! We also have a water cooler station where clients can refill their bottle (not available at The Luxe on Sunset). In order to maintain our studio and equipment clean, food or any other beverages are not permitted inside.
In our experience, cell phones are a distraction and do not aid the mind-body connection. To maximize your class experience and create a safe and mindful environment, we kindly request that you place your phone on silent mode and refrain from using it during class. If an emergency arises, and you need to take a call or answer a message, we ask that you please remove yourself from class and step outside the studio to do so.
To respect those with allergies or scent sensitivities, please do not wear perfume in the studio.
If you are new to our studio, we recommend starting with one of the following class types: Beginner/Intermediate, Open Level, or Glutes / Abs / Arms. Our style is more athletic and challenging than most Pilates workouts, so we feel it's best to experience our method in our less intense classes first before moving to more challenging formats.
Yes, please! We pride ourselves on having spotlessly clean studio spaces. Your instructor will give you a paper towel with cleaner at the end of class. For private sessions, the instructor will clean your equipment after your workout.
Prices, classes and instructors are subject to change without notice. Please check our website or app for the most current schedule and pricing.
If your favorite class is sold out, definitely waitlist it! If a spot opens up, you will be added to the class in the order of where you stood on the waitlist. You will receive an automated text letting you know you have been removed from the waitlist. You will be asked to text back with either "Y/NN to being added to the class. You will have 2 hours to respond to the text, if you say no or do not respond, the next person will be auto-texted by our system. (Make sure you haven't unsubscribed from notification! This is how the system contacts you).
  • If a space opens up within 12 hours of class, the Front Desk will call you personally to let you know and confirm your spot. If they do not get a verbal or written confirmation, they will contact the next person on the list.
  • If you respond "NO" to the waitlist, you will be removed from the roster. If you don't respond until a time within the 12-hour cancellation time, you will be removed from the waitlist and your space will be offered to the next client on the waitlist if applicable.
  • If you unsubscribe from notifications from the studio when creating your profile or at any time after, you will not receive a notification from our system that you made it off the waitlist. Please make sure to keep notifications active on your account!
A private session means that you will have one-on-one instruction with one of our highly-trained Certified Pilates Instructors. The studio does its best to schedule private sessions in private rooms, but that is not always possible given the volume of sessions each day. As a result sometimes the private rooms are beeing shared with other private sessions.
The studio does its best to accommodate instructor requests, but we generally recommend training with different instructors to ensure we can meet your scheduling and fitness needs. We have a system in place for sharing client notes, so you will always be in good hands!
If you anticipate being late to class, please inform our front desk staff as soon as possible. Our goal is to minimize disruptions for everyone, and we will do our best to accommodate you. In most cases, you will still be allowed to join the class. However, please note that the final decision will be made at the discretion of our staff.
If you are pregnant, please get your doctor's approval before beginning this or any other exercise program. If your doctor clears you, then yes, you can join us! Before joining a group class, we highly recommend doing 1-3 private sessions first, so one of our Certified Pilates Instructors can give you hands-on attention and suggest appropriate prenatal modifications to use during a regular group class.
When you are ready to join a group class, we kindly ask that you let your instructor know that you are pregnant before class so they can suggest modifications and variations to your workout.
In addition, we recommend taking only Open Level and Beginner/Intermediate classes. Target-training and Jumpboard classes are not appropriate for prenatal clients.
Pilates is great for injuries, but we do highly recommend doing 1-3 private sessions before joining group classes since our classes tend to be more athletic and challenging than a regular Pilates workout.
When you are ready to join group classes, we kindly ask that you let your instructor know about your injury before class, so they are aware of it and can suggest modifications and variations to your workout.
In addition, we recommend taking only Open Level and Beginner/Intermediate classes initially. Target-training and Jumpboard classes are not always appropriate for injured clients.
We love seeing you, so come as often as you like! Clients sometimes tell us that Natural Pilates is an addiction (but a good one, obviously!).
Unlike cardio classes, where your body needs a day or two of recovery in between workouts, Pilates can be done every day without issue. However, most clients opt for 3-4 times per week, in which case Pilates classes can be alternated with other workouts or forms of exercise (hiking, cycling, yoga, HIIT, etc.)
One of the Joseph Pilates most famous quotes to keep in mind when considering your practice is: "In 10 sessions, you'll feel the difference; in 20 sessions, you'll see the difference; and in 30 sessions, you'll have a whole new body."
Younger teens may take group class with their parent/guardian present as long as they are taller than 4.8 ft. The parent/guardian must sign a liability waiver for their teen.
Due to safety and liability reasons, we cannot allow children to stay in the studio while class is in session.

OTHER

Because Pilates is a form of strength-training, when taking classes on a regular basis, most clients will increase their level of lean muscle mass. More muscle mass translates to more calorie burning when at rest. But weight loss is determined by many other individual factors that cannot be monitored in a Pilates class, such as nutrition, lifestyle (level of general activity), stress levels, work situation (sedentary vs. active), hormone levels, age, and hereditary traits. The more muscle you build the more calories you will burn.
Pets are not permitted in the studio unless it is a service animal, so please leave your furry friends at home or outside.
Our instructors come from many different backgrounds, but all are vetted by Owner and Master Trainer, Laura Wilson, who has a very high standard when it comes to hiring. All our Instructors are certified through either our Natural Pilates Teacher Training Program (accredited by the Pilates Method Alliance) or a nationally or internationally-recognized Pilates Training Program.
